AN ADZED OAK SIDE CHAIR by Robert Thompson, 1930's/40's, the tapering back with straight top rail, cruciform splat centred by a roundel carved with a portrait bust of a king, drop in seat, on turned faceted and block front legs, square section back legs and multiple stretchers, carved mouse trademark, 17 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 34 3/4" Note: This chair closely resembles chairs formerly in the collection of Harold Stead, late of The Manor House in Lower Wyke, near Bradford, who commissioned Thompson to furnish his house in the late 1930's (Illustrated)
