OF FIRST WORLD WAR INTEREST - an Edwardian "Benevolent Pence Box", maker Nathan & Hayes, Birmingham 1908, in the form of a Georgian octagonal sugar vase, the swept cover with coin aperture, engraved "UK, CTA Harrogate Branch, Schools & Benevolent Pence Box", hinged and opening to reveal the original stitched cloth lift-out bag, the body engraved "In Memory of 2nd Lt. A.L. Gibson, killed Aug. 1915, Gunner J. Clelland, killed May 1917", on waisted socle and square foot, 9 1/2" high, 15ozs 3dwts, on a square ebonised socle applied with four silver plaques engraved with names, retailed by Ogdens, in original case (Est. plus 21% premium inc.
