A ST. IVES POTTERY EGG CUP later painted in pale ochre, black and blue in the Omega style with a geometric band, impressed seal, inscribed CMPH (Catherine Hill, wife of artist Ernest Hill [Headmaster of the Bournville School of Arts and Crafts] metal worker, book binder, artist, act. 1930's), 2" high, together with a slipware terracotta shallow bowl, unmarked but in the style of Michael Cardew, 7 1/4" diameter, three various Chinese style wax resist finely potted bowls, and a Seviers ashtray (6) (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT) NB Marion Richardson (1892-1946) was an influential art teacher and pioneer of the child art movement. She won a teacher-training scholarship at Birmingham Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and her first teaching job was at Dudley Girls High School. She corresponded with Roger Fry, Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and Gwen John and these may have been an influence upon Catherine's decoration of the egg cup
