A PERSIAN STYLE POTTERY BOWL BY JOHN PEARSON, early 20th century, of shallow circular form, the interior painted with stylised leaves and fruit, the exterior with berried laurel, base with a flowering stalk, inscribed monogram and hourglass, indistinct impressed factory mark 8R (?), 9 1/2" diameter (Base Illustrated) John Pearson became a ceramics designer and decorator with William de Morgan working on decorative tiles and blanks. He was discovered by C R Ashbee who offered him the chance to be a founder member of the Guild of Handicraft. Following a dispute he resigned, and, for a time worked independently both as a ceramics designer and metal worker (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT)
